Interlace Removal

Due to history, broadcast video images being shown on TV have two fields per frame (halves) that make up a frame. This kind of video is called interlaced video.

If you are delivering videos to the web, you have to remove the interlacing by eliminating one of the fields. Otherwise rapid movements will cause artifacts as you can see in this example.

When working with modern video standards, like HDTV, there is no need to de-interlace because they are already in a progressive format (only full frames).
