Modulation

Modulation is used for transmitting (digital) signals using an analog carrier. There are three basic kinds of modulations.

  • FM (frequency modulation): the frequency of the carrier changes according to the digital values.
  • AM (amplitude modulation): the amplitude is influenced by the digital signal. This method is simple, but the resulting signal is quite easily disturbed.
  • PM (phase modulation): according to the digital signal, the phase of the analog signal is altered. Phase modulation is the best, but also the most difficult method.
To see the different kinds of modulation, just enter a binary code and press the "ok"-button. You can also change the frequency of the carrier signal with the up- and down-buttons.
